As anyone with a brain knows, there are two ways one can study the Force: in the dark or in the light. Ever since Star Wars came out in 1977, the debate has been going strong—which side is better? There is no question that both sides pack a powerful punch. Time and time again in the trilogies and expanded universe, the two sides rear their heads and prove that they’re both definitely badass. However, I ask you, which is the better side? Well, let us see, shall we?
Jedi: A balance is necessary
The Jedi order is the white gang in Star Wars. The inter-planetary sheriffs, these dudes trek all around the galaxy trying to recruit new members into their order. In addition to sweeping little kids up, they take on their archenemies: members of the Sith order.
Hell-bent on uniting the universe with the light side of the Force, the Jedi do their best to help everyone they can. But why are they so badass? Well, for one, they do all they can to function without emotion. For them, emotion breeds attachment, which, in turn, leads to misplaced loyalties and breeches of security. The coolness of the Jedi Knight is one trait that is undeniably, well, cool.
Added to the lack of emotion, the Jedi can jump around to ridiculous heights, push, and pull things with only the power of their mind. Combined with their weapon of choice, the lightsaber, this band of brothers is a force—that was a smooth Star Wars pun, if I do say so myself – to be reckoned with.
Finally, the Jedi have some pretty great star fighters, as seen in Revenge of the Sith—they would be great to take someone to prom in.
Sith: Release your anger
Galactic baddies, the Sith order, are up next. These bold bastards are the exact opposite of the Jedi order in almost every respect. Whereas the Jedi are a vast brotherhood, the Sith only have two lords in the galaxy at one time—and they thrive off slaughtering their old masters to advance in the ranks!
With every intention of gaining power through any means necessary, the Sith only help themselves. Thriving off despair and turmoil, these dark gents roam around in search of power, influence, and more power. Unlike their lighter enemies, the Sith’s entire philosophy is based off releasing and channeling emotions—mainly anger and rage. For them, this is power and should be utilized.
Along with their mastery of channeling emotions, the Sith have some great powers. For one, they can cast lightning out of their finger tips. They can also choke people from across the room. Wouldn’t that be handy?
Come to the Dark Side, please.
The Sith are the better of the two sides, and here is why. First off, they can do anything a Jedi can and more. Sith can actually experience emotion, too. And, come on, who wants to live a life devoid of any feeling?
The Sith have darker, cooler clothes, more realistic motives, and they usually have some great actors playing them. Overall, they’re the better side because, given the chance, I bet everyone would truly prefer them to the Jedi, if they gave it any thought. Come on, the lightning sold you. I know it.Choose a Side: Jedi vs. Sith,
