Pirate City Archers 3 (PCA3) is a game of strategy that contains fifteen levels. You are a pirate hunter assigned to hunt down pirates that reside in the city. (It is rumored that their ship is behind the local WalMart, but no one knows for sure.) Throughout the game you must sort out the innocents from the pirates as you and your trusty bow and arrow set (bought from the very same WalMart in question) roam the streets looking for pirates.
When you first click into the game, you watch a pretty humorous skit that depicts the pirates attempting to inflict some sort of harm on a man. Luckily, the pirate hunter arrived just in time to stick him full of arrows!
After the cut scene (which you have the option to skip), you are given the option of going through a tutorial or to jump straight into the game play. The tutorial is not really necessary for success, but it does tell you how to distinguish between pirates and innocents. Pirates always wear bandanas and civilians are always in blue.
There are several different kinds of pirates in the game, and you will learn all about them should you choose to go through the tutorial. There are basic pirates, pirates that can throw knives at you, and pirates that are slow but have double the health of their brethren.
You are stationed on an apartment building and can move from balcony to balcony and even to the ground. The pirates run past you in the hopes to get off screen. Your job is to kill them before they are able to. You have one hundred health points to begin with, but that number decreases if you kill innocents or if the armed pirates get a chance to stick you with their knives.
Occasionally in the higher levels, cannons will appear and shoot at you. You can dodge the balls with the arrow keys, jump onto the balconies, and move all about. Remember to kill the pirates! As the levels heat up, the pirates will become more and more intrusive, they will gain in number, and it becomes a strategy game: Which will you kill to make it through the level?
Pirate City Archers 3 is a basic shooter that provides the gamer with some fun at first. However, as it goes on it quickly becomes boring. There are no achievements, level-ups, or upgrades. PCA3 is a good game for a few minutes, but you will soon be clicking around for something else.
